My first year in NYC to walk the show instead of exhibit,  I loved meeting all the faces behind the design companies I’ve followed for many years!  Congratulations to all the exhibitors! For more ICFF coverage, visit Apartment Therapy or check out an off-beat article involving the “real people” New York Times sent to experience the Furniture Fair first hand.

Apartment Therapy’s Smallest Coolest Contest

May 11th, 2007

Apartment Therapy’s “Smallest Coolest” annual contest in tandem with DWR,  is back and more inspiring than ever!  It could be the fascination with ingenius solutions everyday people create under pre-assuming restraints of a small space or it could be the voyeur in me- this contest is fascinating! Entrants showcase their homes (most under 650 square feet) and creative solutions to living beautifully whilst living minimalistically. This contest reminds me annually that you don’t need a palace to have style and comfort- giving hope to urbanites, the budget-minded and ”greenies” everywhere!

Great Color Combination Tool!

May 2nd, 2007

Hey everyone!  Ever find yourself searching for a certain “feel” to your space, but stuck when it comes to translating that feeling to a color palette? Then this fabulous color combination website is for you!  Although it is mainly used by graphic designers in selecting palettes for web, video and software applications,  it’s perfect for browsing palettes for you or your client’s home.   Utilize the Search engine (top, left) and type in any aesthetic you desire: “modern” or “urban” or “California” and up pops several color combinations.

Although I have many favorites on this site, I particularly love the palettes giving you a sense of place:  “Japanese Garden,”  “L8er Sk8er,”  “Earthy India” and “Italian Hills”, as well as those that evoke certain times of the year: “Korean Spring,” “At the Pool,” “Chicago Autumn” and “Velvet Winter Morning.”

Try it!  You’ll be hooked.  And let me know when you  decide on a palette, so I can match the palette to C2’s 496 luxurious, handcrafted paint colors.  Cheers!
